Why the popularity for hybrids?
Many experts believe crossbred dogs are healthier because they draw from a more varied genetic background than purebreds. Owners are looking for animals that combine the best qualities of two breeds. These designer dogs have surged in popularity in the last few years.These hybrids have settled into the homes of celebrity owners such as actors Jake Gyllenhaal and James Gandolfini.
What is a Pugsund?
It is a hybrid, a cross between a pug and a miniature dachshund. We started breeding pugsunds about eight years ago, and realized we were really on to something special. This unique blend seems to take the best traits of both breeds. Pugs can have breathing and eye problems, and can shed excessively. Dachshunds can develop back problems. By combining these breeds, they do not suffer from any of these maladies.
Basic Pugsund facts:
• Size: Pugsunds are about 10 to 12 lbs fully grown, and a nice size for elderly
• Grooming: They have minimal shedding, and do not require professional grooming.
• Color: They come in a variety of colors (can have different color eyes from the dapple gene of the dachshund)
• Life Span: Live well over 10 years of age.
• Temperament: Outstanding. Non-aggressive, fun-loving, good with other animals, great with children. Can be strong-willed (From the hound in the dachshund). We recommend early crate training.
Pugsunds look like a puppy all their life, and may be the cutest puppy ever!!
What is a Puggle?
It is a hybrid cross between a pug and a beagle.
Basic Puggle facts:
• Size: mature to about 20 lbs.
• Grooming: Minimal shedding; puggles do not require professional grooming. But they do shed more in dry climate.
• Color: Our puppies are apricot with white markings. Very pretty.
• Life Span: Well over 10 years
• Temperament: Very nice. Good with children and other animals. Can be vocal from the hound in the beagle. Can be strong-willed, but are non-aggressive.
